Buying a new car, while more desirable to most consumers, is expensive. In these trying economic times, most people don’t have the money to spend on a brand new car. While buying a new car certainly has its rewards, you can go to a car dealership and buy a perfectly acceptable car that is used.
Making sure the car is in good condition
All dealerships are required to assess every car they sell. It is illegal to sell a used car at a dealership that could be faulty. This is good, because you know you are getting a good car for your money. This is also a good reason to buy from a dealership and not a private seller. There is absolutely no guarantee that the private seller is selling you a car that is going to work. People have had bad experiences, where they pick the car up, only to have it completely die a couple of weeks later.
You can usually not get a refund on a used car from a private seller. If you have a problem with a used car from a dealership, then you can generally take it back, they’ll have a look at it, and provided the damage done wasn’t all your fault, you can get money back. Even if a car seems good, and has all of the paperwork to prove it, things can go wrong. A dealership will be a lot more sympathetic than a private seller, who is generally just in it for money.
Paying over time
Most dealerships have some kind of policy where you don’t have to pay everything right away. You can pay in pieces, on your own time. If you’re comfortable being in debt, this can be a good option if you need a car now but don’t have the cash. This isn’t doable with a private seller – they usually want their money upfront. If you have a job where you aren’t going to get paid for another couple of months, then see if you can get a layaway plan at your dealership.
Why buy used?
There are a lot of good reasons to buy a new car. If you’re short on money, though, you can get a used car that is in perfect condition. Most people think of old clunkers and ancient cars when they think about a car that’s used. This doesn’t have to be the case at all. You can get a very new car that didn’t suit the original buyer’s needs, for significantly less than was paid for it.
If you’re looking for a car to buy, you should definitely try a used car. It’s a good idea to buy it from a dealership as opposed to a private seller. You can make sure you’re getting the best deal for your money, and get a refund if you need it. Also, there is a really good chance that you aren’t going to get ripped off at a dealership.
