It seems that the Christmas season is a time when many people decide to get engaged. Perhaps it’s the weather and joyous attitude in the air; perhaps it’s a way for men to get out of buying a Christmas gift. Whatever the reason, more and more couples agree to take their relationship to the next level and get married. However, once the honeymoon period (no pun intended) is over, it’s time for the couple to get down to business. From planning a date to getting engagement photos (engagement glamour shots are no scam), there is a lot to do before the big day. The more you do early, the less stress you’ll have later on or at least one can hope. Here’s a small portion of the many things you’ll need to do before the big day.
Come up with a budget: Although you don’t want to talk about money right after you’ve expressed your love for one another, a budget must be established to determine how much you’re willing to spend on a wedding. This will determine everything else, from the setting to the honeymoon.
Pick a date: Do you want a spring wedding when the flowers are just blooming, symbolizing your partnership, or are you more of a summer couple? Of course, this question may also be determined by the next bullet point.
Where do you want to hold the wedding? Are you looking for a bigger wedding in a huge banquet hall or are you looking for something more intimate? What about a destination wedding? These are all questions that you’ll need to answer and in a hurry. Some places may be booked up to two years in advance, so you should pick a place as quickly as possible.
What about the guests? Do you remember the scene in Father of the Bride when Steve Martin starts crossing off people and gets excited when he learns that one of the people is dead? Don’t do that. However, establishing a guest list must be done at some point, and doing so early will give your guests enough time to make arrangements to make it to your big day.
Engagement glamour shots are no scam: You may not think that you need engagement photos, but you would be sorely mistaken. Engagement photos allow you to test drive a photographer to make sure he/she will be right for the wedding. Plus, you’ll have the chance to showcase your personalities and show why you guys make a great couple in the first place.
