If you have ever watched any of the couponing shows on TV, you’d probably remark at how seemingly easy it is to save from your grocery bill just by scanning a couple of coupons. However, it’s more work than you think. While you do not have to take out the clear books and start inserting hundreds upon hundreds of coupons, you will need to exert effort in picking out the right coupons and using them strategically. Here are some of the couponing tips that you should take note of:
1. Always turn to the Sunday papers.
While you can find coupons from just about any kind of published material, the honey hole of coupons is the Sunday paper. Start off with just one subscription and when you verify that a certain Sunday paper contains great coupons, then you can make multiple subscriptions of it. The only problem is that subscribing to Sunday papers can be rather costly. Even if you avail of a low introductory price, the rates could shoot up so make sure that the papers you subscribe to really contain coupons which are worth the amount you’ll be paying for these papers.
2. Ask if your local grocery store has a loyalty program.
One way for you to save with your purchases is to take part of its loyalty program. In some stores, you can load up store coupons into your loyalty card which will simply the check-out process, and keep you from getting certain stares from the people queuing from behind you.
3. Use store coupons with manufacturer’s coupons.
If you really want to maximize your savings, then try stacking coupons together. Store coupons are coupons which can only be availed in the store which releases them. On the other hand, manufacturer’s coupons are given out by the makers of the products themselves and can used on any store all over the country. Most stores allow shoppers to make use of these two kinds of coupons on the same item. In that way, you’ll save more on just one item.
4. Wait until a sale comes up before you use your coupon.
When an item is on sale, then you are already getting discounts for it. However, if you have a coupon for that item, then you will be able to double your savings in the process. While this might mean that you’ll have to be more patient when planning your shopping trips and buying items, it will pay off in the end.
