Many people dream about becoming lawyers, but they later realize that law is not the right career for them. That is why you should ask yourself some key questions if you are thinking about studying postgraduate law. Below are a few of those questions:
Why Do I Want to Become a Lawyer?
Far too many people choose to attend law school because they want to please their family. However, these people often end up miserable because they did not choose the profession that they really wanted. That is why you should attend law school because it is something that you want.
Additionally, you should not choose to become a lawyer solely because of the money. Lawyers do make a nice salary, but if you are choosing this profession solely because of the salary, then law school may not be right for you. Law school is a lot of hard work, and many students find that salary is not worth all of that hard work.
Do I Have the Time and Motivation to Study Law?
Again, law school is a lot of hard work. It will drain you physically and emotionally. You will have to spend a lot of your time going to class, writing reports and studying for exams. Your day can start as early as 7:00 a.m. and not end until 11:00 p.m. There may even be times where you have to stay up until 12:00 a.m. and get right back up at 4:00 a.m. It takes a lot of time and motivation to succeed in law school.
Are My Grades Good Enough to Get Me into Law School?
Most law schools are very selective. In fact, most law schools only accept between 10 and 30 percent of the students who apply. In most cases, the students who get accepted have a very high GPA. They have also scored very high on the Law School Admissions Test, or LSAT. If your grades and LSAT score are not where they school be, then you should take time to improve them before you apply to law school.
Sit down and wirte out a list of the pros and cons for what you want to study. Don’t think about it too much just write down whatever comes into your mind. This is a great way to compare both sides of the argument.
You should take the time out to ask yourself a few key questions before you decide to attend law school. Law is a great profession, but it certainly is not right for everyone.
