Packing Your Bag Correctly When Going Abroad

Whether you are looking to go away backpacking around Europe, going for a weekend break or even going away on business, there is an art to packing your belongings. There are people who do a lot of travelling through the course of their life, whether it is for pleasure or for work. The more experience you have at travelling then thee better at it you usually are. Most of us have packed out bag or case for a trip away, and we over pack it. Bring back things which we never even took out of the case, let alone used while we were away. There are some tips that you can follow though which should help you pack up before you go and make sure you pack efficiently and effectively.

Making a list

A great way to make sure you do not over pack and bring a lot of things with you that you do not need, is to make a list before you pack your bag, suitcase or backpack.

  • Dress Clothes
  • Shoes
  • Jeans
  • T-Shirts
  • Towel
  • Books

Whatever the reason is for your travels, come up with a list of all of the potential situations that you may find yourself in, and also list what the appropriate wear would be. By doing this you can work out exactly what it is that you are going to need to take away with you. When you are travelling on business this is different as it is mainly work wear that you will need while away. When you are travelling or going on holiday though, you may not need to take formal wear with you. If you speak to backpackers who have done a lot of travelling, most of them will tell you that when they first set off they had a lot of stuff with them which they did not need or use. This either then gets discarded or sent back home if they are travelling for a long period of time. It really can make a difference when you are carrying your baggage with you a lot and not just from the taxi to your hotel room. Once you have your list, then go through it a couple of times and see if there is anything that you have forgotten or anything that you actually do not need. Remember that whatever it is that you need, will generally also be available to buy where ever you decide to travel to.

Packing your bags

There are some tricks and tips that you can use to pack your bags to make things as easy as possible for you and also so that you have only a few wrinkles in your clothes as well. When you have your list of everything that you are going to have to take with you, get everything out and lay it on the bed. If you are packing for working then you may wish to turn your suit inside out and fold up neatly. Shirts and pants can be folded as they would when you first buy them from the store which will help avoid the wrinkles.

A good way to save space in your bag is to roll items of clothes up. Firstly place all of your shoes and heavier items at the bottom of your bag before you start adding all of your clothes. Remember that it is pointless taking items you will not wear so be fragile with the space and things that you take. Any toiletries which are fragile and cab be broken can easily be placed in your rolled up garments which will also offer them additional protection.

Clothes, towels and toiletries can be placed on top of your shoes and heavier items. If you are going to take a coat with you then you may wish to wear this when you travel, rather than packing this into your bag. Also carrying your books and heavier items in your hand luggage may help as well. Then when you have packed you are already to set off on your cheap holiday abroad and have the time of your life, without straining your back while you travel!
